RangeeOS - Automatically Playing a PowerPoint Presentation
With a thin client and RangeeOS, you can automatically play a PowerPoint presentation at startup and loop it continuously.
There are basically two options, each with different advantages and disadvantages:
Option 1 – Playback as an Exported Video via VLC Player
Export the presentation as a video and play it using the VLC module:
VLC - Place video or slideshow on the client and play it in a loop
Advantages:
- The presentation is played exactly as intended, including all transition effects and PowerPoint-specific options.
- No risk of formatting issues or font conflicts, since the presentation is converted into a video.
Disadvantages: - The presentation must first be exported in the appropriate format (Instructions - external link).
- Subsequent changes to the presentation require re-exporting the video, which adds extra effort.
- Flexible adjustment of slide display times is not possible, as they are fixed in the video.
Option 2 – Playback via the LibreOffice Module
LibreOffice - Automatically Playing a PowerPoint Presentation
Advantages:
- You can use the presentation as-is in .pptx or .pps format.
- A startup script can be used to define the display times of individual slides flexibly.
- No conversion is required, saving time and allowing more flexibility.
Disadvantages: - PowerPoint transition effects may not be fully supported.
- There may be display issues with specific formatting, fonts, or animations.
